New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi Endorses Indus Waters Treaty Suspension Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow that claimed 25 Indian lives and one Nepali citizen, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called for decisive action against Pakistan. The opposition leader voiced support for the government’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty during his address after attending an emergency all-party meeting.

Owaisi

While commending the Cabinet Committee on Security’s decisions, Owaisi emphasized the need for proper implementation. He raised several critical points during his remarks:

1. Treaty Suspension Support with Practical Concerns
The Hyderabad MP welcomed the treaty suspension but sought operational details: “While the suspension is commendable, we must address practical challenges like water storage. Our support for the government’s decision remains unwavering—national security transcends politics.”

2. Urging More Stringent Measures
The politician proposed additional counter-terrorism measures: “Beyond treaty suspension, we must utilize all legal options. International law empowers us to implement naval blockades and arms embargoes against state sponsors of terrorism.”

3. Security Response Scrutiny
Questioning the attack’s aftermath, he demanded: “The delayed CRPF deployment raises serious concerns. Why did our rapid response forces need sixty minutes to arrive? Most disturbingly, reports suggest victims faced religious identification before execution.”

The Pahalgam Tragedy
Tuesday’s assault on tourists in the picturesque meadow marked one of Kashmir’s bloodiest attacks in recent memory. This brazen act of terrorism has significantly heightened India-Pakistan tensions, with New Delhi responding by halting the crucial water-sharing agreement.

Government Countermeasures
In response to the atrocity, the CCS has authorized:

  • Immediate suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
  • Intensified diplomatic isolation of Pakistan
  • Potential military and economic sanctions

Cross-Party Solidarity Emerges
The attack has fostered unusual political consensus, with opposition figures like Owaisi aligning with the government’s hardline approach. However, lawmakers continue pressing for enhanced security protocols at vulnerable tourist sites.

As the nation mourns, authorities remain focused on delivering justice while preventing similar tragedies through strengthened counterterrorism strategies.
