Pro-Khalistani Protesters Attempt Security Breach

Britain has condemned the security breach involving India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in London. The UK Foreign Office assured that the Metropolitan Police acted swiftly and warned that any form of intimidation or threats is unacceptable.

During Mr. Jaishankar’s exit from Chatham House, a pro-Khalistani protester attempted to break police barricades while others chanted anti-India slogans. Chatham House, home to the Royal Institute of International Affairs, was hosting an interactive session where the Indian minister was present.

Swift Police Action and India’s Response

The Metropolitan Police intervened immediately to contain the situation. Videos circulating on social media showed a group of Khalistani protesters holding yellow flags and shouting slogans. As Mr. Jaishankar was preparing to leave, a tall man attempted to break through the police cordon and block his motorcade. Officers promptly removed him from the scene.

India has strongly criticized the incident and called upon the UK to uphold its diplomatic responsibilities. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We condemn the provocative actions of this small group of separatists and extremists.” He further emphasized that India expects the host country to fulfill its diplomatic obligations and prevent such disruptions in the future.

Ongoing Security Concerns Over Khalistani Activities

This is not the first instance of security breaches by Khalistani elements in the UK. In March 2023, similar protesters pulled down the Indian national flag at the High Commission in London. Following that incident, India summoned the senior-most British diplomat in Delhi and demanded an explanation regarding the lack of security measures at the mission.

India has consistently urged the UK government to take strict action against pro-Khalistani groups operating from British soil.
