Battle with Cancer & Passing
Priya was diagnosed with cancer around 2023, battling it while intermittently returning to work. Colleagues said she resumed acting after initial treatment but the disease relapsed more aggressively during later projects such as Tujhech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe. Her final public social media post was in August 2024.
On August 31, 2025, she passed away at age 38, at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai, at approximately 4 AM, after the cancer progressed despite treatment. She is survived by her husband. No children were born to the couple.
Her cousin, actor Subodh Bhave, paid an emotional tribute, calling her a fighter whose strength finally gave way after a brave struggle. Usha Nadkarni, her Pavitra Rishta co-star, expressed grief over her untimely demise, saying “this is no age to go,” and recalling her warmth and positive spirit. Other co-stars like Anurag Sharma and Swati Anand also shared heartfelt memories.
Remembering Priya Marathe
Priya’s fans remember her for her versatility—she seamlessly shifted between Marathi and Hindi television, between comedy and drama, between positive and negative characters. She was beloved not just for her characters, but also for her sincerity, her effortless humor, her calm nature, and her ability to connect deeply with audiences.
Beyond acting, she was admired for her gentle personality, resilience, and the way she lived simply yet touched many lives. The visuals of her cozy, plant-filled home, shared posthumously, reflect the warmth she personified off screen as well.
Her death adds her name to the list of Indian television artists who succumbed early to cancer, highlighting the disease’s indiscriminate nature and the personal toll it takes even on those who are strong-willed and loved.
