Within days, hundreds and then thousands of people visiting the Akhadas at Mahakumbh started to form queues to meet her. Such was the instant fame that Monalisa could hardly walk through the fair selling her garlands. Even with a mask on, her brown eyes were enough for the mass to identify her. Some even say she is now in hiding.

Role of Daughter of a Retired Army Soldier
Sanoj Mishra explained that Monalisa’s character in The Diary of Manipur resembles her normal life. “Monalisa comes from a lower middle-class house. She is a nomad, selling garlands for a living, and her family accompanies her to fulfill their daily needs. Her character is that of a daughter of a retired army soldier from Manipur. Who also wants to join the army. This is her dream. The story revolves around what hardship she has to go through to realize her dreams, what struggles she faces, and how she ultimately fulfills her dream,” said Mishra.
Monalisa to be Trained in Acting
Mishra indicated that his team will instruct Monalisa in the fundamentals of acting. “I will call her to my studio. Our motive is to ensure her acting should be in sync with her original nature (her carefreeness and innocence),” he added.
Mishra was asked about the main thing that delighted him as a director looking at Monalisa. He said that looks and beauty is not what makes a successful film. “If you want to stay in the film industry and leave your mark, then you will have to be proficient in acting. The qualities of an artist can be inculcated in Monalisa; she can be taught.
We have seen in her that she has the desire to achieve something,” he said. Mishra asserted that people in the film industry believe that there are also values beyond obscenity. “If a porn star like Sunny Leone can be brought into the film industry and made an icon. And if I bring a girl from nomadic community in front of the country. Then it will send out a message that not everything is about nudity and filth. You can also present yourself in the film industry with great decency and simplicity,” he said.
No Salman-Shahrukh Casting
Mishra stated that nepotism has always existed in the film industry, but the public rejects such people’s films; “My main focus is to provide a platform for new artists. My films do not have star cast like Salman-Shahrukh, the story of my film is the star cast,” he said.
